In 1973, I helped to found the English Setter Rescue and have been the South-West representative since 1979, when I first moved to Devon. Over the years, I have been fortunate to have been able to help so many English Setters find new homes. Thankfully, there are not so many these days as there were when we first started the service; English Setters are not easy dogs to look after properly and require a special type of owner. I have a list of people offering homes and, while I always try to place the right dog in the right home, preference is usually given to previous owners of English Setters. Some of our homes are on their third, fourth or even fifth English Setter Rescue. It may seem a little unfair to some, but the welfare of the dog is paramount and, since people with previous Setter knowledge know what they are letting themselves in for, they give a Rescue more chance of a secure future. Please contact me for advice or help: I am always happy to listen & talk and add new potential homes to my list.
